I'm the Product Manager for In The Rooms, an online global recovery community. I define the product strategy and lead teams in creating and improving our product offerings.

For what projects/services did your company hire RipenApps?

Our mobile applications were very outdated and frustrating for our users to engage with, so we hired RipenApps to create brand new Android and iOS apps.

What were your goals for this project?

Our primary goal was to vastly improve mobile app usability for our members with a more modern and simplistic user experience. We were aiming to convert at least 50% of our users from desktop to mobile, and to acquire thousands of new members with better app offerings.

How did you select this vendor?

We evaluated a few different vendors, and selected RipenApps based on value, professionalism, and a very detailed proposal and initial scope of work.

At the onset of the project, we worked to define every feature and functionality of the app to be included within the scope of work (this would be quite a complex project because of all the features and elements included within our preexisting member website).

We needed everything from member profiles and newsfeeds to live video meetings and direct messaging incorporated in the app. Our team provided a very basic mockup of what we wanted the general structure of the app to be, with the rest of the direction originating from our preexisting app and website.

Once we defined these items, we entered the analysis phase, having Skype meetings between the RipenApps team and our development team to discuss project requirements and app architecture. The RipenApps team then began providing basic wireframes for the app, which we communicated back and forth on to refine.

Following this, we entered the design phase, in which the UI/UX designer at RipenApps issued a design questionnaire, then began creating screen mockups for the app. Again we communicated back and forth to clarify elements of the designs. After this, our team started working to provide the required APIs for the RipenApps development team.

This process took a while because of the complexity of the system our team was working within, and the general complexity of the project. At one point, we had daily scrum calls where our development teams worked together to resolve any problems and keep the project moving. We worked through the APIs as RipenApps began working on the actual app development.

The RipenApps team worked in stages of milestones, building out more and more features of the app with each milestone, and providing iOS and Android builds for our company to review. Lots of back and forth collaboration happened during this time, so we could work through any kinks and ensure the app fulfilled all of the user needs. Once we finally reached the point of having a publishable app, the RipenApps team coordinated submission of the apps to the Google Play and App Stores.

We initially worked with a Business Analyst as we defined the project, then we were assigned a Project Manager. As the project went on, our development team and the RipenApps development team worked more closely to accomplish project goals. The COO also took an active role in ensuring that our project was carried out as efficiently as possible.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We haven't had much time to evaluate success yet, since our Android app only went live a few days ago, and our iOS app is still under review in the app store. But initial feedback from members has been positive—they feel that the new app is a vast improvement from our old one!

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The Project Manager we were assigned proved difficult to work with, but the RipenApps COO jumped in to manage communications, allowing the project to continue on smoothly. We used Skype and Basecamp to communicate back and forth. The team was very accommodating to our schedules and timelines, working very late into the evening to fulfill project objectives.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

We were particularly impressed with the team's dedication and adaptability. RipenApps put in long hours to work on this project—I know there was a ton of behind-the-scenes effort that went into fulfilling milestones and providing us with updated builds in a timely manner.

The team was very responsive to our inquiries, regardless of the time of day or night. They were also very adaptable as the requirements of the project grew and fluctuated, and as new deadlines needed to be met.

Are there any areas for improvement?

As an overall company, RipenApps met the mark and fulfilled expectations for our project.

They designed, developed, configured and launched our system. The project began with a new discorvery workshop, which led us reach manual understanding of the business challenges and goals. Once we approved the workflows, wireframes, and mockups, the actual production began in the form of 2 week sprints. The fuinctiuonal versions were ready for user testing and feedback every two weeks. Improvements were made working together with their development.

What was the team composition?

I am unaware of the size of the team but the number of members would change over time. We had a stable project manager who was our direct and permanent contact.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

They did a great job on all aspects of the development phase. I have also continued with them for support and hosting of my business. The team have great work ethics. Very happy with the effort put into meeting milestones and providing support even after development was complete

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Project management was very impressive. His team regularly complied with deadlines and always communicated delays ahead of time. We communicated exclusively with Skype and Basecamp.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Definitely the communication and willingness to help with last minute changes

Are there any areas for improvement?

The analysis phase of our project. Communication between us and representaive for RipenApps for was not that great. It led to many important points not being addressed, which had impacted the overall time of delivering the final product.

We signed the agreements and after that I have met a few different team managers for each phase of the development process. I mainly communicated with the team leaders who then passed my information onto their team.

The app is in the final stages of development.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

There were times when communication and progress were a little slower but overall the communication was fluent and I had a feeling that they were in control and knew exactly what they were doing.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The number of people who participated to this project was a surprise to me. There were a few teams of people and that surprised me positively. Also the availability of most of the team leaders was great because I sometimes messaged them during weekends and still got a relatively quick response.

I would like to be updated at least weekly even if no progress were made.

The aim was to create a transparent and easy to use trading platform for farmers so that they can sell and trade their perishable commodities with ease.

What were your goals for this project?

Poultry is a field with its own unique problems and livestock being a perishable commodity had its own challenges in trading. Also, the 70% target audience for our application was expected not to be very educated or tech-friendly. The challenge was thus to create an application with design and features and UI such that it becomes very easy for users to understand and use. Also, the price of the trading commodity is very fluctuating throughout the day it was thus necessary to incorporate features so that the price fluctuations can be monitored and the users shall be able to adjust their selling prices accordingly.

How did you select this vendor?

We had selected 5 different companies and obtained their quotations and design propositions. Throughout the process we had detailed discussions with analysts. RipenApps was chosen by us not only for their cost effectiveness but for their precise understanding of the requirements and even suggestions to make some of the features even better. Their approach in documenting the requirements was impressive as well.

It was a detailed analysis phase where the business analyst from RipeApps spent considerable time until our satisfaction and developed into wireframes as close as we wanted our application to come out to be. It's worth mentioning that even the tiniest of detail was covered and highlighted in the wireframes.

What was the team composition?

Initially we were introduced to a business analyst who took care of understanding all our requirements and discussions we had with pre sales team and drafted it into wireframes. Her understanding and ability to highlight details and put it into wireframes was impressive. After the analysis phase we were assigned a team comprising a project co-ordinator, a UI/UX designer, front end and backend developers. The entire team was brilliant and hard working. The team left no stones unturned in implementing challenging features such like map view feature in our application unless we were satisfied.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Though we have not yet launched the application officially but we have shared and tested the release with some of our fellow farmers and their response with the UI and the working of the application was overwhelming. The design of the application has come out to be great and I must accept that it's above our expectations. Also, the workflow of the complete order booking process to confirmation from farmer to end delivery authentication and final billing is wonderful.

The entire team at RipenApps had been very co-operative even their senior management. They were always ready to listen and implement. The team had been very ready to listen to even some changes we requested in between and implemented it. The team was very very approachable and very responsive as well. The turn around time for fixing even challenging issues was very less, owing to their experience and expertise.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The most impressive thing about this company is their never-say-no attitude. You bring out any problem out to them even if not of their domain they would happily understand, research it and come out with a brilliant solution to implement. Secondly just not create a product you asked for but they help create a product that actually would bring value to the customer.

In my association with the company so far I could hardly find any areas I would recommend them to improve on. I just wish the company and the team good luck in all their endeavors.
