The scope included:
• Product planning, product management & weekly sprint meetings
• Full iOS + Android development
• Backend rebuild in Node.js
• New onboarding flow, playlist system, updated categories, new meditation/player experience, analytics, notifications, achievements, and more
• Regression testing, QA, crash monitoring & 24/7 support
• A 30-day Alpha testing period prior to launch
• Migration of existing users to the new backend

I paid Naked Development a fixed-fee of $203,000 for this work (as stated in the signed agreement), paid in six monthly installments. The app was promised to be completed approximately five months after kickoff.

There were no measurable outcomes or progress delivered.
Despite paying $203,000 and working with Naked Development for a year, the project never reached a functional state. Multiple independent developers and a neutral third-party auditor confirmed that the delivered code:

Could not be launched
Would crash immediately
Could not support my user base
Required a full rebuild
Because of this, no milestones, features, or usable deliverables were ever completed, and the app could not be launched.

Project management started reasonably responsive but declined significantly over time. Deadlines were repeatedly missed without clear explanations. We received recurring “we’re almost done” updates for many months, but progress did not match what was promised.

My small internal team increasingly had to step into roles such as QA, project management, and timeline pushing because progress had stalled. As issues compounded, communication became inconsistent, and promised deliverables were not met. Ultimately, despite nearly a year of work, no functional product was delivered.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Initially, their branding and presentation appeared polished, and their Clutch profile suggested extensive positive experience. However, once the project began, nothing about the work quality, communication, or delivery matched the expectations their public presence created.

The deliverables were not usable, timelines slipped for nearly a year, and the matter ultimately escalated into active litigation (public record). Based on the outcome and the pattern that later emerged from other former clients, I would not recommend this vendor to any founder.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Naked Development could have done differently?

The single biggest area of improvement is simple: they could have delivered a functioning product. After paying more than $200,000 and working with them for nearly a year, multiple independent engineers - as well as a neutral third-party auditor - concluded that the codebase was not launchable in any form and would require a complete rebuild.

Beyond that fundamental issue, their process could have been dramatically improved had they followed the industry-standard billing structure of tying payments to completed, verifiable deliverables, rather than requiring large upfront payments with no working milestones.

 Multiple independent developers and a neutral third-party auditor all confirmed the code was non-functional and required a complete rebuild. Progress updates became vague, repetitive, and did not match the actual state of the work delivered.

The final outcome was unusable code, additional third-party audit costs, a full rebuild, and over $500K in total impact to my business. Deliverables never met the standards outlined in our agreement or industry norms for this price level.My experience resulted in substantial financial loss, a non-functional deliverable, and a lawsuit that is now a matter of public record. Given the documented issues with deliverables, timelines, and follow-through, I could not recommend them to any founder.

They also could have improved transparency and accountability. When concerns arose, we attempted to resolve the situation privately through mediation. They agreed twice - and withdrew twice. Overall, the most critical improvement they could make is ensuring that clients receive a functional, usable product aligned with the contract - and implementing a payment structure that protects clients from significant losses when deliverables aren’t completed.
